This sleeved is named after mydellmini.com forum user JRM. He was looking for a simple, low profile sleeve that worked more like a pocket than a pouch; something that he could optionally/temporarily mount inside of a larger camera bag and would function as a "reach in and pull out the netbook" sleeve. I made two adaptations from Military/Law Enforcement tactical gear to come up with the design of this sleeve to meet his needs.
The first adaptation is the overlapping elastic webbing closure. Military members in a firefight need to quickly and securely dispose of empty magazines. A common solution (and brilliantly simple I might add) is a large sized pouch that has two pieces of overlapping elastic sewn into a large hole in the lid. This allows the operator to quickly stuff his empty mag inside and know it's not going to fall out a few steps later.
JRM and I quickly realized that without a way to anchor the sleeve inside of his larger bag, when he reached in for the netbook he would wind up pulling out the sleeve with it. To overcome this I used the military Natic standard PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) grid to provide anchor points at any convenient place JRM could find in his bag. Normally this system is used to attach smaller pockets to larger ones, and the larger ones to tactical vests, plate carriers or body armor.
There is a plethora of PALS compatible pouches on the market if you wish to accessorize your JRM sleeve with a place to cozy up your power adapter, wireless mouse, external drive or other accessories.
Options are listed below. I have had a few requests for a zipper version of this sleeve, and I am working on that now!
